Why we harvest seaweed on the west coast of Ireland

There is something deeply restorative about the Irish coast.

The rhythm of the Atlantic, the salty air, the quietness that exists between the tides. It slows you down almost without asking. Along the west coast of Ireland, nature moves at its own pace. The sea shapes the landscape, the weather changes by the hour, and the ocean gives generously to those who respect it.

It is here that Orra begins.

Rooted in the Atlantic

We harvest our seaweed along the wild west coast of Ireland because these waters are among the cleanest and most nutrient-rich in the world. Constantly replenished by the Atlantic Ocean, the seaweed that grows here absorbs an abundance of naturally occurring minerals and trace elements from the sea.

For generations, seaweed has been part of coastal Irish life. Gathered by hand, used in bathing rituals, and valued for its restorative qualities. Long before wellness became a trend, seaweed baths were a way to warm the body, soothe tired muscles, and reconnect with the healing power of nature.

That tradition continues to inspire us today.

A Slower, More Intentional Process

At Orra, we believe the way something is made matters.

We choose to harvest seaweed carefully and intentionally, working with nature rather than against it. Harvesting by hand allows the seaweed beds to regenerate naturally and ensures we only take what is needed. It is a slower process, but one rooted in respect for the coastline, the ocean, and the generations of knowledge that came before us.

The west coast teaches patience. It reminds us that wellness is not about rushing, fixing, or doing more. Often, it is about returning to simple rituals that help us feel grounded again.

Bringing the Coast Home

A seaweed bath is more than a bath.

It is warmth after a long day. A pause from constant noise. A moment to soften, breathe deeply, and reconnect with yourself.

When you step into an Orra seaweed bath, we want you to feel transported. If only for a little while, to the edge of the Atlantic. To imagine the cool ocean air, the sound of waves against the shore, and the stillness that can only be found in nature.

The west coast of Ireland is woven into every bath we create. Not only in the seaweed itself, but in the slower, more restorative way of living it represents.

Wellness, the Natural Way

We believe wellness does not need to be complicated.

Sometimes, it begins with hot water, mineral-rich seaweed, candlelight, and twenty quiet minutes at the end of the day.

Nature has always offered us ways to restore ourselves. We are simply returning to them.
